Dear Neighbors & Supporters,
We did it! The NY Daily News just reported that the New York City Department of Parks has officially purchased the Garden School athletic field!
This is a tremendous accomplishment! This is a dream realized due to the dedication and commitment of the Jackson Heights community and our local elected officials.
We want to thank everyone who pledged to this effort through our Grow A Park campaign. With almost $500,000 received in pledges we were able to show just how important this issue is to our community.
We are delighted to report that your pledges will not be needed. Instead, we hope that you will consider donating $100 to help us continue these efforts. Click here to donate.
We still have a long road ahead of us to create and protect open space in Jackson Heights. The Jackson Heights Green Alliance is now focused on making the 78th Street Play Street even more successful moving forward.
As we announced at our Town Hall last week, we are delighted that the NYC Department of Transportation has selected 78th Street Play Street to be a permanent car-free Public Plaza. Many more details will be forthcoming, but the process will involve extensive feedback from the community and we will keep you apprised of progress and opportunities to weigh in on the design of the Plaza.
We want to take this opportunity to thank the key people involved in making this happen:
City Council Member Daniel Dromm, Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Deputy Mayor Howard Wolfson, Borough President Helen Marshall, Jackson Heights Beautification Group and J.M. Kaplan Fund
Thank you again for all your support in helping make Jackson Heights a more livable place. It really took a village (neighborhood) to get this done!
Sincerely,
The Jackson Heights Green Alliance
