Travers Park Updates!

Friends!

We are very excited to announce that as of today, Monday January 28th, the first phase of the Travers Park/78th St Playstreet/Rory Staunton Field reconstruction project is now open to the public. Construction crews are removing some of the fencing, and portions of the newly renovated areas will be accessible to the public from 34th Avenue by the end of the day.

Some parts of the project including the new lawn, most of 78th St, and the Rory Staunton Field will remain closed for further work, which will be completed over the next few months.

Despite this week’s cold weather, this is an exciting day for our community as we begin to see the culmination of over a decade of hard work by the Jackson Heights Green Alliance and our many community partners and allies as we have fought to renovate Travers, create the 78th St Playstreet and purchase Rory Staunton Field for public use.

All of those partners and friends have been invaluable to this effort and we will thank them many times in the future.

But for today please take a moment to email or call City Council Member Daniel Dromm and thank him for his tireless advocacy and leadership. He has been, and remains, the single most important reason that Travers Park and its surroundings are now bigger and better than ever before.

And, finally, a heartfelt thank you all of you for your support as well.

Your friends at the Jackson Heights Green Alliance
